ELSC Makerspace: Prototype your Ideas

The ELSC Makerspace is an addition to the Fablab, providing a collaborative environment for prototyping and bringing your projects to life. Whether you’re working on a personal project or exploring new ideas, our Makerspace is equipped with the tools and resources you need to bring your ideas into fruition.
The Makerspace involves operating machines that can cause thermal injuries, as well as dangerous manual tools. Do not touch any of the equipment if you are not authorized to do so. We will be hosting an orientation meeting in the Makerspace, which will cover safety protocols and machine usage. These sessions are mandatory for anyone wishing to use the facility independently. In addition, please download and sign the safety forms if you wish to use the facility independently.
The meetings will be hosted in the makerspace each Tuesday at 11:00 and will last about an hour. You can register via this link (any number of participants will be accepted).
To book a machine, simply use the “Bookitlab” software. This platform will display a quote for your specific booking and allow you to reserve the equipment.

Current Booking Policy: For now, machine bookings are available for research purposes only and will be ordered with your lab’s budget.

3D Printers You can either download the brand’s slicer software (free of charge) to prepare your 3D model or use the slicer available in the Makerspace. The slicer software is intuitive and well-documented, with many online tutorials to help you get started. After slicing your model, the software will estimate the print time. Important: Please remember to book an additional hour for setup and preparation.
Laser Cutter For materials with a thickness of up to 10mm, most cutting jobs will take under an hour. You can get a rough time estimate for your cut using the laser cutter software available on the Makerspace’s computer. However, to ensure you have enough time for your project, we recommend booking at least 2 hours for each laser cutting session. Please note that currently only assisted operation is allowed on this machine.
Workstation The workbench, equipped with both electric and manual tools, supports post-processing tasks such as cutting, soldering, and assembly. It is available for use without a reservation, but only for registered members. Please be considerate of others in the room when using certain tools, and make sure to leave the bench clean after use. Bolts and nuts may only be used as part of a project created in the makerspace. Please take only a reasonable amount for your project.

Our team is available to assist with machine operations during regular working hours. While we’re happy to help ensure your machine setup runs smoothly, please note that we are unable to provide design guidance or assist with basic software operations, as we are typically focused on Fablab projects.

We can briefly review your planned operation to help minimize print failures, but please understand that we cannot take responsibility for the outcome, as we may not have time to check all the detailed parameters.

The Makerspace fosters a spirit of openness and collaboration. We encourage you to share your experiences and discoveries, such as optimal settings for different materials. For example, if you’ve found the perfect settings for cutting a 6mm acrylic sheet, please contribute those parameters to the shared charts in the Makerspace computers.
