How to start a project

If you’d like to design a new item, please follow these steps:

  1. Schedule a Meeting: Contact Itamar Frachtenberg, the head of FabLab, via email to set up a meeting. If your project is part of a larger system, we will review the entire system together. If it’s a standalone project, you’re welcome to visit the workshop for a meeting.
  2. Receive Quote and Payment Information: The lab manager will receive an email with a project quote, a link to the order form, and payment instructions. The project will only be added to the queue once the lab manager submits the completed order form.
  3. Design Process: The FabLab team will begin designing your project and will send a sketch to the researcher for approval (if needed).
  4. Prototyping: If the project involves complex manufacturing, we may suggest 3D printing a prototype to test its mechanical and operational fit.
  5. Revisions and Pricing: Additional meetings or improvements may be necessary, which could affect the project’s price. If any price changes occur, the FabLab will inform the researcher.
  6. Project Completion and Payment: Once the project is completed and collected, the payment process will be automatically triggered, and the lab manager will receive an email confirming the project’s completion.

Booking Machines: To book a machine from the Makerspace, please use the “Bookitlab” software. You can search for the keyword “ELSC Fablab” in the instrument list, which will also provide pricing information for FabLab services (such as product design and CNC programming/operation).
