Medical robotics at IBM research

Computers and computer-controlled devices have enormous potential to augment the ability of humans to plan and carry out surgical procedures. For this potential to be realized, close cooperation between engineers, computer scientists and end-users (in this case, the surgeons) is essential. At IBM Research, this multidisciplinary partnership has been established in the search for applications that are important clinically. This paper provides a brief description of the past and current activities of IBM’s Computer Assisted Surgery Group.
