On the Sensitivity of Hodgkin-Huxley Model to Parametric Variation

The Hodgkin-Huxley model is a bedrock for everything related to action potentials. There exists an intriguing, apparent inconsistency associated with it: the model is sensitive to parametric variations, a sensitivity that contrasts with the robustness of the natural phenomenon of excitability to physiological variation of key parameters. In this lecture, I present experimental and theoretical analyses related to the apparent inconsistency, and discuss their consequences.
