Get to know our latest member, Dr. Raunak Basu
Raunak Basu hails from Kolkata, India, and began his academic journey at the Indian Institute of Technology, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biotechnology and biochemical engineering. He subsequently pursued his Ph.D. in Neurobiology at the University of Utah, investigating how cell adhesion proteins regulate synaptic plasticity.
Motivated by a deep curiosity to understand the neuroscience of behavior, Raunak changed his focus to systems neuroscience, leading him to the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt, where he explored how the brain represents future spatial goals.
Now, as an ELSC principal investigator, Raunak is focusing on the neural mechanisms underlying navigation, decision-making, and learning.
“ELSC is a world leader in computational and systems neuroscience,” Raunak said, “which means I get to interact and collaborate with colleagues possessing a diverse set of expertise, thereby fostering an environment ripe for both intellectual discourse and productivity.”
