Shimon Peres fellowship – 2025

ELSC congratulates Dr. Baruch Haimson for receiving the Shimon Peres Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2025.

Baruch completed his academic training in neuroscience, focusing on sensory processing and neuronal plasticity. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he studied spinal circuits and their role in coordinated locomotion and limb movement patterns.

Baruch is a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Adi Mizrahi, investigating how life experiences shape brain function, with a particular emphasis on sensory perception. His research at ELSC explores neuronal plasticity in the auditory cortex of mice, specifically examining how fatherhood induces adaptive changes in auditory processing. His research focuses on the hormonal mechanisms -particularly the role of prolactin – that drive these neural adaptations.

By studying how hormonal signals modulate auditory circuitry to enhance sensitivity to offspring vocalizations, Baruch’s work provides valuable insight into the fundamental mechanisms of neural flexibility. His research bridges sensory neuroscience, endocrinology, and behavioral adaptation, offering a compelling view into how meaningful life experiences dynamically reshape brain function and behavior.

The prestigious Shimon Peres Postdoctoral Fellowship was established through a gift from the Lily Safra Foundation.
