ELSC congratulates Dr. Johannes Niediek for receiving the Shimon Peres Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2019-20.

Dr. Niediek studied mathematics and physics at the University of Bonn, Germany. He completed his doctoral studies in neuroscience at the University of Bonn’s Department of Epileptology, using recordings from individual neurons in the brains of epilepsy patients to study the formation of memories. At ELSC, Dr. Niediek works as a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Israel Nelken. He uses tools from information theory to model how rats learn complex tasks in naturalistic environments.

The prestigious Shimon Peres Fellowship at ELSC was established through a gift from Mrs. Lily Safra.
